Did you ever want to create your own super hero? Don’t tell me I’m alone in this!
Instead of a super hero, I created the Seer. (An angel Seer to be precise.) “Hold on a sec. What is a Seer?” you may ask. Good question. A Seer is a mythical person found in many fantasy novels and fairy tales. Usually the Seer is a magical witch or sorcerer who can see into the future. Today, I’ll show you how I created my own version of a Seer—with a twist. A paranormal twist. In my academy books, the Nexis Angel series, a Seer is someone who can see the unseen supernatural world around us. What does that mean exactly? Well, our Seer has the power to see angels and demons. Even talk to them if she wants to. How cool is that? That depends. Because great power attracts power-seekers. If you’re the Seer, you have to know the rules … and how to use them to your advantage. Without further ado, here are the 6 ingredients to make the perfect Seer. 1. Two Secret Societies Meet the Nexis Society. They just want to create their own Utopia, where they rule the world their own way—with half-angel beings called Nephilim making everyone do whatever Nexis says. If only they had someone who could see angels and play matchmaker then their children could take over the planet. What’s so wrong with that? Exactly. Enter the Guardians, who just want to protect the world from the crazy Utopianists … in their own way, of course. Their plans involve keeping the Seer all to themselves so no one, not even the dreaded Nexis Society, will ever find out about the Seer. Or their powers. That's a BIG secret to keep. 2. A Centuries-old Legend Now, the only thing the Guardians have to do is keep the ancient legend about a mystical Seer under wraps. Who wants to hear the story of a firstborn child from a bloodline dating back to before the Bible anyway? Boring! The Nexis Secret, Book 1 in the Nexis Angel series, tells the tale of a firstborn heir of Noah’s firstborn, (Yeah, that guy from the Bible), who will be endowed with the gift to see the unseen supernatural world of angels and demons. This legacy is passed down from firstborn to firstborn, with each receiving a version of “the gift.” Once a century—when the world needs “the gift” the most—one of the lucky firstborns will become The Seer. Sounds pretty cool right? Well … only if you can keep a secret. 3. One Seer to Spill the Beans You’d think it’d be easy to keep this amazing little tidbit to yourself, especially if all your friends are in one secret society. Right? Wrong! It just so happens, one of our Seers accidentally gets betrothed to the highest bidder, a high-ranking Nexis member. (They did stuff like that in the Dark Ages.) And with one kiss, this evil Nexis minion discovers the whole truth … And of course, being a high-ranking dude in a super baddie group, he wants to use his betrothed's power to help Nexis fulfill their dastardly plan. Not only is the secret out, but now a war is brewing between two secret societies. Yikes! Luckily our girl has been trained well. She does everything in her power to avoid becoming a Nexis pawn. Which earns her the title of St. Lucia, if not a long life. Because she’s the Seer Who Spilled the Beans (by accident), St. Lucia must now haunt the current Seer until the world is right again. Joy! 4. Surprise Powers for a Modern Girl Back in the present day, there’s a girl named Lucy who just wants to be normal and hide in the shadows. Sound familiar? Lucy the almost-normal girl, starts her junior year at Montrose Academy-an elite boarding school in New York. But then she starts see strange things. Slithering shadows. Visions of weird Biblical dudes. Even a man made of pure light. She must be crazy, right? I wish! 5. Bad Guys to Showcase New Powers It only takes a run-in with her stalker ex for Lucy to realize she’s not crazy. When she sees a lightning dude battle a shadowy demon-like wraith with bolts of electricity, she knows she’s not creative enough to make this stuff up. Okay, so it takes our girl awhile to figure out this extra sight is a super power, not a curse. (Hey, don’t all super heroes feel like they’re cursed at some point?) But when she’s backed into a corner (or up against a tree in our story), she finalize realizes she’s got powers. And she needs to use them. Like now. Well, now that I’ve basically given away the plot of The Nexis Secret, Book 1 in the Nexis Angel series, let’s sneak a peek at Book 2. (In case you’re wondering, there’s a lot of other cool stuff in The Nexis Secret. Like love triangles, a paranormal academy, secret society hijinks, and my favorite … a snarky bestie. Check it out for yourself here.) 6. A Super Cool Secret Training Lair After you realize this Seer thing isn’t really a curse (most of the time), you may wonder, “What’s next?” Glad you asked. Now it’s time for Seer Training! Not only do you get to hone your new powers, but you also get to train in a super-secret underground lair! There’s also an entire family dedicated to your training needs. The Guardians will make sure you get the proper training which includes:
How cool is that? And that’s all I’m going to give away for Crossing Nexis, Book 2 in the Nexis Angel series. You can read the sample here, which probably includes the first half of Seer Training. Enjoy! I hope you learned all there is to know about creating your own version of a Seer. Or at least wonder what it’d be like to be the Seer. After all, who doesn’t want surprise powers that make you wonder if you’ve gone crazy?! Do you think you’d make a good Seer? Leave a comment below. I’d love to know your opinion … and chat about it. Or you can head over to my FB author page to leave a comment. Either way, I’d love to hear from you! (Figuratively, because this is the interwebs)

Hi Barbara! Posting to let you know I was here. I think I'm in love with your series and I haven't even read it yet. Really wish I had something like this when I was a teenager!
